Numerous economic sanctions that the countries of the European Union, together with the United States, apply against Russia have so far been limited to a sobering effect on many Russian politicians but have not yet been able to force Putin to withdraw troops from Ukrainian territories.
These sanctions, as is known, have not yet been able to deprive Russia of significant cash flows that European countries provide to it, paying for the supply of gas and oil products. Today, this money, materialized in bombs and rockets, is destroying Ukrainian cities and killing civilians.
We, the Anti-War movement, understand that the economies of many European countries are almost entirely dependent on Russian energy supplies. We believe new steps are necessary to limit financial injections into the Russian army significantly.
We appeal to the European Union countries to make payments for the supply of Russian energy resources to specially blocked bank accounts in European countries, which imply a limited use of funds.
